The later side

“Basic Sandwich” literalises the conflict through Borchert's computer, whose purpose is preserving an emotional component inside a system that would otherwise become inhuman. The machine can only restart through a blast of human passion, and reopening it gives the group the access they need before closing.

“Well, in theory, a blast of human passion could shock the mainframe into a cold start, but that's only if somebody in this room has feelings stronger than I get when I rub my nipples, so good luck with that, folks.”

What changes on the way

NewsRadio keeps the argument as character. Community builds it into hardware, so the emotion is not only the theme but the mechanism that saves the institution.

The changed element is part of the evidence rather than noise. A function can move to a different character, a power relation can reverse, several sources can combine, and the same mechanism can produce a different result.
