Printed charts we own and never applied

Twelve charts on disk · three used · nine idle · 2026-09-06
12printed charts on disk
3ever applied to a tab
9never applied
7songs affected
1song holds all three used charts
Every applied chart is on one song. Ryan Brown, Daniel Bédard and Drumnet were all used on Zomby Woof, cited by name in revisions r8905411 and r8905491. Across every other song in the collection, a professional transcription has sat on disk and no revision has ever cited it. The worklist below is ordered by how far each tab sits from its chart.

1Dong Work for Yuda

Joe's Garage · s768189 · AI, Kaiden Zalla, 1,606 notes, 146 bars
Charts on disk:
• Pete Sweeney, Vinnie Colaiuta transcriptions
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/03-petesweeney/Vinnietranscriptions.pdf
9 scanned pages, 6,091,849 bytes, shared with Keep It Greasey
The gapThe tab uses exactly three lanes. Closed hi-hat 1,168, kick 292, snare 146. Zero toms, zero cymbals, zero open hi-hat across 5:03 of Vinnie Colaiuta.
What the chart suppliesThe Sweeney scan is a full transcription of this exact track. It supplies every lane the tab is missing. No other chart-to-tab gap in the collection comes close to this one.

2Apostrophe’

Apostrophe (’) · s35873 · no drum track at all
Charts on disk:
• Cruise Ship Drummer, Todd Bishop on Jim Gordon
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/01-cruiseshipdrummer/transcription-jim-gordon-apostrophe_p01.jpg
612x792 JPEG plus a one-page PDF, drum break from 3:22, two systems with (rim) and (china), copyright 2011
The gapThe studio tab carries no drum staff whatsoever. The only AI tab is a 1974 Los Angeles live performance of another night.
What the chart suppliesThe Bishop excerpt is the only notation of the studio take in existence here. Entering it would put the first drum notes ever onto the studio tab, even as a partial.

3Watermelon in Easter Hay

Joe's Garage · s35881 · ours, live revision is our ghost strip, 2,091 notes, 105 bars
Charts on disk:
• Drumnet.ru, BartoRomeo, Solo Guitar & Drums
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/06-drumnet/Watermelon-In-Easter-Hay_p1.jpg
five A4 pages, marked (1:20) A, quarter = 55.47, bar numbers in the margin
The gapOur own strip removed 1,317 parenthesised noteheads and it is still the published state. The restore r8908034 sits pending. 1,724 of the surviving notes are ride cymbal.
What the chart suppliesA five-page chart of this exact recording has sat unread beside a tab we damaged. It would settle the ghost question from a printed source instead of from our own reasoning.

4The Central Scrutinizer

Joe's Garage · s3554079 · human, femboy.gardevoir, 1,465 notes, 92 bars
Charts on disk:
• Cruise Ship Drummer, Todd Bishop on Vinnie Colaiuta
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/01-cruiseshipdrummer/groove-o-the-day-vinnie-colaiuta-the-central-scrutinizer_p01.jpg
two JPEGs, 27,496 and 22,015 bytes, staff lines labelled hihat, high/mid tom, snare, bass
The gapThe tab writes 18 cymbal notes across 3:23 against 758 hi-hat notes, so the cymbal colour is effectively absent.
What the chart suppliesThe Bishop excerpt is two systems only, so it checks the groove rather than the whole track. A printed second opinion on the repeated figure still has real value.

5Don't Eat the Yellow Snow

Apostrophe (’) · s35866 · human, MarkDubya, 560 notes, 38 bars
Charts on disk:
• Cruise Ship Drummer, Todd Bishop on Ralph Humphrey
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/01-cruiseshipdrummer/transcription-ralph-humphrey-dont-eat-the-yellow-snow_p01.jpg
  1236x1600 JPEG plus a one-page PDF, seven-line legend, begins at 0:32, barred 7/8 against 7/4, bar numbers to 33
The gapThe tab holds 11 tom notes and 13 cymbal notes in the whole song, with the hi-hat carrying 331 of its 560 notes.
What the chart suppliesBishop's page is a complete reading of the same passage with a full kit legend and the meter written out. Direct bar-for-bar comparison is available and has never been run.

6Andy

One Size Fits All · s21495 · human, Leonard, 2,461 notes, 176 bars
Charts on disk:
• DRUM Magazine, Ryan Brown, Groove Analysis
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/02-drummagazine/andy.png
  1222x558 PNG, Chester Thompson groove
The gapTom writing sits at 1.00 a bar, which is low for a Chester Thompson track of this length.
What the chart suppliesBrown's page is one system, so it verifies the signature groove rather than the arrangement. Cheap to check and never checked.

7Keep It Greasey

Joe's Garage · s604777 · human, Ben Dibden1, 4,948 notes, 248 bars, 629 ghosts, 60 accents
Charts on disk:
• DRUM Magazine, Ryan Brown, Groove Analysis
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/02-drummagazine/Keep-It-Greasey.png
  1166x1130 PNG
• DRUM Magazine, Vinnie Colaiuta Odd Meter Lesson 4
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/02-drummagazine/Odd-Meter-Lesson-4-Keep-It-Greasy-1.png
three PNGs plus the lesson text as markdown
• Pete Sweeney, Vinnie Colaiuta transcriptions
  ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/03-petesweeney/Vinnietranscriptions.pdf
9 scanned pages, shared with Dong Work for Yuda
The gapThree printed sources against the richest tab in the whole audit. Our own stripping revision here was rejected by a moderator, so the 629 ghosts survived.
What the chart suppliesLowest urgency of the seven and highest verification value. Three independent charts against one strong tab is the best available test of whether our measuring method agrees with print.

The three that were applied

All on Zomby Woof s412162. Ryan Brown's Groove Analysis in DRUM Magazine, Daniel Bédard's handwritten chart and the Drumnet drumset sheet are each named in the descriptions of revisions r8905411 and r8905491. Both revisions are pending moderation, so the corrections are queued and not published. Detail on the revisions status page.

Method

The chart inventory comes from the local archive at ~/Projects/_outputs/zappa-drum-sources/, counted after deduplicating the byte-identical filenames. A chart counts as applied when a Songsterr revision on the matching tab names its source in the description, checked by pulling /api/meta/<songId>/revisions for every affected tab and searching the full description text for Ryan Brown, DRUM Magazine, Groove Analysis, Bedard, Drumnet, Sweeney or Bishop. Tab lane counts come from the CloudFront notation JSON, read off the fret field against the General MIDI drum map.
