One word kept twice where the idiom would drop it
Two ordinary English expressions are altered so that the word hairpin survives in both. Neither substitution is the idiomatic form.

The ordinary idiom is “hear a pin drop.” The lyric substitutes “hair pin drop,” keeping the word hairpin where the idiom would not have it.

The ordinary idiom is “hair trigger.” The lyric substitutes “hairpin trigger.” A second substitution of the same word, two years later.

What changes on the way
The first substitution arrives alone. By the second, the word has become an interpretive object inside the audience, so the recurrence lands on an existing reading rather than creating one.
The changed element is part of the evidence rather than noise. A function can move to a different character, a power relation can reverse, several sources can combine, and the same mechanism can produce a different result.
