Per-ghost adjudication against sources. No restore executes from this page.
DIRECT CHART MATCH permits a restore.
Publication state and notation truth are separate axes. A song can be
MODERATION SAFE and UNRESOLVED at the same time.
| status | meaning | permitted action |
|---|---|---|
| DIRECT CHART MATCH | Independent drum chart shows the exact ghost | Restore |
| DIRECT CHART REJECT | Chart shows an ordinary stroke or no stroke there | Keep removed |
| STRUCTURAL SCORE SUPPORT | Official score confirms rhythm, meter or ensemble attack | Preserve timing, continue dynamic check |
| REPEATED PATTERN SUPPORT | Strong repeated pattern indicates deliberate encoding | Hold as probable, seek written confirmation |
| SNARE PRIOR | Ghost is on snare with plausible placement | Hold as likely, adjudicate further |
| NON-SNARE PRIOR | Ghost is on another percussion lane | Hold for evidence |
| REVISION SEMANTIC ERROR | Later edit changed ghost into another articulation | Undo wrong articulation only |
| MODERATION SAFE | Destructive revision did not become current | No immediate repair required |
| UNRESOLVED | Evidence does not decide the individual flag | Make no musical edit |

| 35881 | Watermelon In Easter Hay was: SETTLED, keep all 1317 |
1317 | 0 | 1317 | REPEATED PATTERN SUPPORTNON-SNARE PRIOR | Ride ghosts form an accent grid: slots 0/4/8/12 read 407 plain against 2 ghosted, every other sixteenth 1 plain against 1,314 ghosted, ghosted ride alone in its beat 99.4%, dynamic:null throughout. That is strong evidence of deliberate encoding and it is not a written confirmation. The Frank Zappa Guitar Book carries this track and an independent analysis states Vai's transcription includes the drum part in detail. The verdict comes from matching the ostinato bar-for-bar against Vai. | BLOCKED on the Vai book have: Drumnet p1-p5 on disk, 5 pages need: Vai Guitar Book |
| 604777 | Keep It Greasey was: RESTORED |
629 | 629 | 0 | MODERATION SAFESNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | Moderator rejected the stripping revision, so the live tab keeps all 629 flags. That protects the publication state and settles nothing about whether each flag is musically authentic. | Live state safe, musically unadjudicated have: Brown chart, Pete Sweeney PDF, Colaiuta DRUM lesson on disk need: chart or audio per flag |
| 35886 | Muffin Man was: MIXED LANES |
578 | 504 | 74 | SNARE PRIORNON-SNARE PRIOR | 504 on snare and 74 elsewhere. Both halves await per-event adjudication. | Actionable after calibration have: Brown muffin-man-1.png, Drumnet p1-p4 need: none, sources in hand |
| 620961 | Drowning Witch was: MIXED LANES |
419 | 101 | 318 | STRUCTURAL SCORE SUPPORTNON-SNARE PRIORSNARE PRIOR | Ryan Brown documents that an actual Zappa drum part exists for the Interlude, with exactly notated material beside sections where instrumentation is unspecified, and identifies the 9/8 and 4/4 changes. Broader analysis documents sextuplets and 27/16. Split the song by chart coverage first, then let every ghost inherit the evidence level of its own section. | ACTIONABLE NOW have: Brown Drowning-Witch.png + GrooveAnalysis on disk need: none, sources in hand |
| 35870 | Montana was: SETTLED, restore 317 |
317 | 174 | 143 | REVISION SEMANTIC ERRORUNRESOLVED | LOSES ITS SETTLED LABEL. The evidence proves only that replacing ghost markings with staccato dots was semantically wrong, since duration and dynamic are separate properties. It never proved the 317 original flags were musically correct. Undo the wrong articulation, then adjudicate the 174 snare and 143 non-snare cases separately. | BLOCKED on $7.99 purchase have: zappa-analysis only, no drum chart need: Percunerds full chart, $7.99 |
| 1105085 | The Black Page was: SNARE ONLY, restore |
173 | 170 | 3 | STRUCTURAL SCORE SUPPORTSNARE PRIOR | ITS OWN EVIDENCE CLASS. Zappa wrote the piece as a drum solo, so the published material preserves the exact composed rhythm including nested tuplets and irregular subdivisions. Analysis notes Bozzio added hi-hat ticks that were not prescribed, which separates composed attacks from performance additions. Compare all 173 against the written drum score before any decision. | ACTIONABLE NOW have: the-black-page-drum-solo.htm plus drum-solo3.jpg on disk need: none, drum-solo material on disk |
| 35865 | Nanook Rubs It was: SNARE ONLY, restore |
168 | 168 | 0 | SNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | Pure snare, which is a strong prior and not a verdict. | Awaiting adjudication have: nothing on disk need: a chart, none found |
| 35878 | Nanook Suite was: SNARE ONLY, restore |
168 | 168 | 0 | SNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | Pure snare, strong prior only. | Awaiting adjudication have: nothing on disk need: a chart, none found |
| 412178 | Inca Roads was: MIXED LANES |
165 | 134 | 31 | STRUCTURAL SCORE SUPPORTSNARE PRIORNON-SNARE PRIOR | Ben Wall's 2011 Huddersfield thesis is ON THIS MAC and its Appendix C is a full study score, pages 98 to 132, with a Drum Kit staff. Only the improvised guitar and keyboard solos were omitted. Bar 29 at the head of section [C] carries 7 against 6: drums septuplets against bass sextuplets in the first half, unison semiquavers on beat 3, drums quintuplet against marimba sextuplets on beat 4, under a conducted steady 4/4. | ACTIONABLE NOW, best calibration target have: Wall thesis pp98-132 on disk, drum staff present need: none |
| 68248 | Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy was: NO SNARE, chart required |
144 | 0 | 144 | NON-SNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | 144 on tambourine. No independent full drum chart found. Bongo Fury anniversary material carries complete Armadillo performances and a longer Carolina, which becomes useful audio evidence once the album source relationship is pinned down. | Hardest case, audio route only have: nothing on disk need: a drum chart, none found anywhere |
| 35884 | Oh No was: NO SNARE, chart required |
141 | 0 | 141 | NON-SNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | 141 on closed hat. Greater suspicion because hat ghosts appear less often in ordinary charts, and the lane still cannot decide it. | Actionable after calibration have: Drumnet material on disk need: Drumnet coverage check |
| 68246 | Alien Orifice was: MIXED LANES |
86 | 33 | 53 | SNARE PRIORNON-SNARE PRIOR | 33 snare, 33 crash, 14 crash 2. | Awaiting adjudication have: zappa-analysis only need: a chart |

53 | 53 | 0 | MODERATION SAFESNARE PRIORUNRESOLVED | Moderator rejected the stripping revision, isBlocked true, so the live tab keeps all 53. Publication state is safe. Notation truth is untested. | Live state safe, musically unadjudicated have: zappa-analysis only need: chart or audio per flag |
| 412162 | Zomby Woof was: DROP 32, ADD 8 |
32 | 0 | 32 | DIRECT CHART REJECTDIRECT CHART MATCH | RATIONALE CORRECTED. The 22 hi-hat flags are rejected because DRUMNET DISAGREES WITH THEIR LOCATIONS, never because hi-hat ghost notation is invalid in itself. Drumnet prints parenthesised snare pairs at bars 5 to 8 slots 6 and 7 that the transcriber missed, giving 8 DIRECT CHART MATCH events at positions with zero overlap against the 32 flagged. | ACTIONABLE NOW have: 27 assets, 5 publishers need: none |
| 20690 | Uncle Meat (YCDTOSA Vol. 2) was: STILL STRIPPED |

3 | ? | ? | UNRESOLVED | Upgraded by the Guitar Book. Vai transcribed the entire long solo block including Colaiuta's drum solo, and Todd Bishop published an independent Packard Goose drum transcription covering the guitar solo. Two sources for any removed ghost inside their coverage. NEITHER IS ON THIS MAC. | BLOCKED, neither source on disk have: one zappa-analysis jpg need: Vai Guitar Book AND Bishop's chart |

1 | ? | ? | UNRESOLVED | Appears in the Guitar Book. Vai's transcription is confirmed, and nothing yet proves those pages carry a complete drum staff. Inspect before granting drum authority. | Inspect before trusting have: zappa-analysis jpgs need: Vai Guitar Book, then inspect for a drum staff |

Both are valid and they describe different scopes. 3,842 is the earlier count of flags removed by revisions that became the current published one, across 16 tabs. 4,574 is the full damage ledger across 23 tabs, including revisions that were submitted without publishing and four that were flagged and never submitted. The pair is recorded here with its scope attached so nobody later reads two correct measurements as a contradiction.
The 22 hi-hat flags are rejected because Drumnet disagrees with their locations, never because hi-hat ghost notation is invalid in itself. That distinction matters, since the invalid-notation claim would have wrongly generalised to every hat, ride and tambourine ghost in the set.
What is proven: converting ghosts into staccato dots was semantically wrong, because duration and dynamic are separate properties. What is not proven: that all 317 original flags were musically correct. Undo the articulation error, then adjudicate 174 snare and 143 non-snare separately against the Percunerds chart.
Zappa wrote it as a drum solo, so the published material preserves the composed rhythm including nested tuplets. Analysis notes Bozzio added hi-hat ticks that were not prescribed, which separates composed attacks from performance additions. The drum-solo material is already on this Mac.
A rejected stripping revision means MODERATION SAFE. It does not establish
that every original flag is authentic, so both stay UNRESOLVED musically.
A first pass called three of these blocked on a disk check alone. Not-on-disk closes one layer. A search reopened two of them and narrowed the third, so the wording now names the specific layer that is shut.
the-black-page-drum-solo.htm and the-black-page-drum-solo3.jpg are

disk. The 1982 Vai Frank Zappa Guitar Book is not on this Mac and no free copy was found. It is the single acquisition that unlocks the Watermelon and Packard Goose Vai comparisons, and Black Napkins cannot be judged for drum authority until its pages are inspected. Every other item above has a route that does not need it.
Nothing was downloaded. The Packard Goose PDF was checked with a HEAD request only.
The file named BarryWall_The-Musical-Worlds-of-Frank-Zappa_thesis.pdf is
mislabelled. It is Wall, Ben (2011), 'Inca Roads' - The Musical Worlds of Frank Zappa,
Masters thesis, University of Huddersfield, 132 pages.
Appendix C, pages 98 to 132, is the full study score. Page 98 lists Lead Vocals, Backing Vocals, Flute, Marimba, Vibraphone, Rhodes Piano, Synthesizer 1, Synthesizer 2, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Timpani, Percussion and Drum Kit, marked "Transcribed by Benjamin Wall", quarter note = 120 approx.
The only omission is the improvised guitar and keyboard solos, because they differed in every recording. The drums are present throughout.
The red zone is BAR 29, at the head of section [C], the first occurrence of polyrhythm in the piece. Zappa conducts a steady 4/4 across the whole section, as marked on the score. First half of the bar the drums play septuplets against the bass playing normal sextuplets. Beat 3 drops into unison semiquavers. Beat 4 puts the drums on a quintuplet against the marimba's sextuplets. Wall sets it out as a 7-against-6 Time Unit Box System in figure 5.
The Songsterr tab has TWO drum staves: track 10 named "AI" and track 11 named "Chester Thompson", both instrument 1024. Live revision 8769026. Any comparison has to say which staff it is judging.
